IQ.Drive is a range of advanced safety features that assist you when driving. They’re not a substitute for careful driving, but they warn you of situations you may not have seen. This allows you to take action and avoid an accident. Many of these systems will actively intervene to protect you and your passengers. As your Volkswagen dealer, we want to tell you about some of the Volkswagen safety features you may have in your vehicle.

From Your Volkswagen Dealer: How Volkswagen Safety Features Protect You

Active Blind Spot Monitor

This system uses radar sensors to monitor your blind spots. If the sensors detect a vehicle, your direction indicators on the corresponding side and the three squares on that side mirror flash. If you’re about to hit the turn indicator to change lanes, these warnings will save you from an accident.

Rear Traffic Alert

Radar sensors in your Volkswagen’s rear scan the area to your left and right. When you shift into reverse, these sensors will warn you if they detect a vehicle or motorcycle that will pass behind you. This gives you time to brake and avoid a collision. This system will also automatically brake if your vehicle hasn’t stopped after the warnings.

Lane Assist

This system is active when driving above 35 mph. It uses advanced camera technology to identify the lane lines and works to keep you centered in your lane. You receive audio and visual warnings if you move toward the lines and are not actively steering. If your vehicle continues to move, the system turns your wheel to direct you back into your lane.

Front Assist

This feature uses radar and a camera to scan the road ahead for other vehicles or pedestrians in your lane. Advanced versions of this technology can also detect cyclists. If it detects a moving object in front of you, it calculates the distance to the object and your speed to determine if a collision risk exists.
Front Assist provides audio and visual warning if an accident is possible. These warnings give you time to take action by hitting the brakes or evading the object. If you don’t react in time, the system applies the brakes and will perform hard braking to stop you almost instantly, if needed, to prevent a collision.

Emergency Assist

This feature is active if Lane Assist is active, and it monitors your hands on the wheel. If it detects your hands aren’t on the wheel, it provides an escalating series of visual and audio warnings advising you to resume steering. If you don’t actively steer after the warnings, it automatically works to keep you centered in your lane and brings your Volkswagen to a controlled stop for safety.
These are just some of the systems that keep you safe. If you’d like to know more, contact us at Tony Volkswagen in Waihapu, HI.
